U.S. Chamber Released 2007 Ranking of States' Lawsuit Climates
April 25, 2007
California Ranks Near Bottom of the List
Washington, DC-U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tom Donohue, joined by California business leaders, released the results of the annual
Harris Interactive/Institute for Legal Reform ranking of states' legal climates on Wednesday, April 25th in Sacramento, California.
California has consistently ranked in the bottom tier of the states. In the past, more respondents cited Los Angeles as the worst litigation environment in the country than any other jurisdiction. This year's report has been released in Sacramento to highlight the need for legislative action in order to fix California's broken lawsuit system.
Now in its sixth year, the study is based on a survey of nearly 1,600 senior attorneys. The statistical information from these interviews is tabulated and provides a comparative ranking of all 50 states describing the relative fairness of their respective legal systems. The study is the preeminent standard by which businesses, policymakers and the media judge the lawsuit climate of states.
Speakers included:
• Tom Donohue, President and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce
• Assemblymember Nicole Parra (D-Hanaford)
• Humphrey Taylor, Chairman, The Harris Poll
• Allan Zaremberg, President, CalChamber
